Ice Cube's BIG3 league has teamed up with the producers of popular reality TV show “Big Brother” to create a quarantined 16-player basketball tournament. However, former NBA player and current ESPN Analyst Kendrick Perkins is not a big fan of the idea.

“Right now, although we need entertainment, although we are thirsty for sports … but right now I just don't think it's the time and I'm 100 percent against it,” Perkins said on ESPN, per Rachel Nichols.

“To me, it's sending out a bad example of social distancing although you're going through the proper steps, you still don't want to play with this right now because we've all never experienced anything like this.”

According to the BIG3, the 16-player tournament will last three weeks. All players and officials would have to test negative for COVID-19 prior to entering the tournament. All players will then be quarantined in the same house and any player that breaks quarantine will be eliminated. The winner of the tournament will receive a seven-figure cash prize.

While the former NBA big man was against the idea of the new tournament, his former Boston Celtics teammate Paul Pierce stated that he would consider joining Ice Cube's tournament.

Perkins retired from the NBA in 2018 after a 14-year career with the Celtics, Oklahoma City Thunder, New Orleans Pelicans and Cleveland Cavaliers.

During those 14 seasons, the 6-foot-10, 270-pound center averaged 5.4 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game while shooting 53 percent from the floor.

Perkins' sentiment to “shut everything down” is not uncommon, as the coronavirus has forced the NBA and many other major sports leagues to postpone or cancel their seasons or events.
