The NBA is adding a few more pieces of hardware for its stars to collect. In the league's 75th anniversary season, two legends of the game, namely Boston Celtics' Larry Bird and Los Angeles Lakers' Magic Johnson, will have two new trophies named after them.

The league is introducing the Conference Finals MVP awards, named after the two legendary rivals from the East and West.

Larry Bird's Celtics were the Eastern Conference Champions in five of his 13 seasons in the NBA, winning three NBA titles in the process. Boston made the Finals in four straight seasons from 1984-1987.

“I am very honored to have my name associated with the NBA’s Eastern Conference Finals MVP Trophy,” said Bird.  “I know how tough it is to get to this great milestone of the Eastern Conference Finals and to be named the Most Valuable Player makes it even more special.”

Magic Johnson's Lakers reached the biggest stage even more, making nine trips to the NBA Finals and winning five rings in the process.

“The NBA Conference Finals represent the last hurdle a team must face for an opportunity to make it to the big stage, the NBA Finals,” said Johnson.  “I’m truly honored to have my name memorialized on the Western Conference Finals Most Valuable Player Trophy.  This player excels on both ends of the court, makes his teammates better and leads his team to the greatest stage in basketball.”

There's arguably no East vs. West rivalry more fitting to represent the highest individual honor for both conferences than Larry Bird vs. Magic Johnson.
