Former NBA big man Shaquille O'Neal has a fear of sharks and that is probably only worse now after a close encounter during Discovery Channel's “Shark Week.”

O'Neal went underwater in a “Shaq cage” and sharks swam around it. Plans quickly went South when one of the sharks slipped through a bar to the cage and came inside.

“There’s a shark getting in the cage! There’s a shark in the cage! We’ve got to get him out,” a diver calls out.

The divers quickly came to the rescue and although it's not shown in the clip above O'Neal was able to escape from the close call.

Will Packer, an executive producer, told the New York Post that a shark has never breached a cage in the 30-year history of the show. “The space between the bars was different than normal and the shark was able to wiggle into the cage,” Packer said. “Shaq hasn’t moved that fast since he was in the NBA.”

Shaquille O'Neal trained before going into the ocean in a pool filled with sharks in the Bahamas. At one point he was so scared that he can be seen holding Rob Riggle's hand.

He was reminded that he was still the biggest thing down in the waters and he was eventually able to get at least somewhat comfortable in the pool, and those sharks were even closer than the ones he encountered in the ocean.

After such an embarrassing performance on Shark Week maybe it's time that Charles Barkley makes a new segment on TNT just for Shaq, Sharkin' A Fool.
