Former NBA shooting guard Jerry Stackhouse has already fully immersed himself into the world of coaching. However, it appears as though Stackhouse could be making a major move that would surely increase his stock as a coach going forward.

According to an initial report from Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports and Sports Illustrated, Vanderbilt is currently targeting Stackhouse to become the school's next coach for the men's basketball team.

“Memphis Grizzlies assistant Jerry Stackhouse is in contract negotiations to become Vanderbilt's next head coach, according to SI Now contributor Jon Rothstein,” reads Sports Illustrated's report regarding the matter. “According to Rothstein, Stackhouse emerged as a primary candidate in the last 24 hours, and while nothing is final yet, the two sides will likely come to an agreement.”

Jerry Stackhouse, who is currently serving as an assistant coach with the NBA's Memphis Grizzlies, previously served as the head coach of the Toronto Raptors' G League team for the last two years.

Stackhouse was notably named 2017 G League Coach of the Year after leading his team to a title. According to Jeff Borzello of ESPN, it is also worth noting that his time in the G League “helped build his relationship with Vanderbilt athletic director Malcolm Turner, who was formerly the president of the G League,”

During his NBA playing days, Stackhouse averaged 16.9 points, 3.3 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game while spending time with the Philadelphia 76ers, Detroit Pistons, Washington Wizards, Dallas Mavericks, Milwaukee Bucks, Miami Heat, Atlanta Hawks and Brooklyn Nets along the way. He last suited up back in 2012-13 for the Nets.
