The Los Angeles Lakers may have upgraded this offseason, but it seems that LeBron James and company are not satisfied. Although the Lakers reached within four games of the NBA Finals a year ago, they reportedly have still been in the market for a boost at the point guard position, including several high-profile players.

A new report from Jovan Buha of The Athletic shed some light on some specific names that Los Angeles has been tied to.

“The Lakers have pursued other star guards, including Damian Lillard, Kyle Lowry and Kyrie Irving,” according to Buha. “Even into this summer, there were some in the organization, including James, who still had an interest in pursuing Irving, though the front office ultimately prioritized continuity. Trae Young has long been on Los Angeles’ radar, depending on how his situation unfolds in Atlanta.”

The Trae Young situation in Atlanta has been somewhat of a mystery in NBA circles. There have been various unsourced trade rumors surrounding the point guard dating back to last season, but no leaks have come from either Young himself or his camp, leading some to question whether the former Oklahoma Sooner may even be available at all.

Still, if Young is on the market, the Lakers could definitely use his talent. Young would provide an immediate upgrade at playmaking and shooting alongside LeBron James. It would certainly take a lot to bring in the multi-time All-Star, and at least in the present moment, the Lakers wouldn't appear to have anywhere close to the necessary assets that would appease Atlanta.

Still, this is the NBA offseason after all, and it's fun to dream.
