NBA referees have been the subject of complains from players and coaches over the past years, as they feel that the calls the officials make are not consistent, and that a number of violations are being missed during games. That said, the league is continuing to find ways to improve officiating and bring back the complete trust the competitors have in the referees.

However, instead on focusing on their personnel, the NBA will try to integrate more technology to their officiating program, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

“The NBA has been pursuing a more data-driven and analytical management structure over referees, integrating more technology as part of its officiating program.”

Over the past few seasons, there have been changes made to some rules of the game. The review of plays when under two minutes and the maximum number of timeouts, just to name a few, have been altered. Now that Adam Silver and company are looking to focus on technology, it will be very interesting to find out what exactly they mean by it.

The changes are expected to raise the level of competition in the NBA even more. With consistent calls and a more accurate way of officiating, the game itself will benefit and players will be more inclined to compete without any distractions.
