The desire the Los Angeles Clippers have to upgrade the point guard position before the trade deadline passes is well-documented. Names like Kyle Lowry, Ricky Rubio, Terry Rozier and George Hill, among others, have been floated around as potential names to keep tabs on for the Clippers. Marc Stein of The New York Times now reports another name in the mix: Lonzo Ball.

This would catch the attention of the league.

Lonzo Ball is having the best season of his career so far. He's averaging a career-high 14.2 points per game while shooting a career-best 38.5% from 3-point range. It appears Ball is finally developing into the player the Los Angeles Lakers had hoped he would be when they drafted him out of UCLA.

Even though Ball plays the same position as Rubio and Rozier, the three all have very different styles of play that they bring to the table. Lonzo is on the younger end of things, still trying to mold his game into the best version it can be. He's a playmaking gem, able to make just about any pass you can cook up in your mind. And with the increased shooting, it's no surprise a serious contender like the Clippers are in on him.

Lonzo Ball is set to be a restricted free agent in the offseason. Despite that, if the Pelicans trade him at all, the asking price would be fairly high given how he has played so far this season. The question for the Clippers isn't if they would want to trade for him, because of course they would. The question is, do they have enough assets to get a deal done?

That's the rub when it comes to a trade:

Expect Lonzo Ball's name to continue to circulate in trade rumors with his pending restricted free agency coming up and teams like the Clippers and New York Knicks interested.
