The New York Knicks are seeking a lottery-level pick in exchange for veteran Marcus Morris and his expiring $15 million deal, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium.

Morris is perhaps the single most valuable asset the Knicks possess. The front office has been actively listening for offers, driving the price up as much as possible in the last few days.

Charania told Alex Kennedy of HoopsHype it will take a top-14 draft selection to get the Knicks to bite on a deal, considering the team values Morris as a potential building piece. The rugged veteran has also made his intentions of staying with the Knicks known to the media, something that certainly plays a factor in whether he will be moved by the deadline or not.

Morris, who was one of the last players signed to the squad, leads the Knicks in scoring (19.6 points per game) and 3-point shooting (43.9%) — two reasons contenders are seeking his services before Thursday's deadline.

The Knicks have also been trying to move other cogs like Kevin Knox, Frank Ntilikina, and Dennis Smith Jr., but they have gotten very little traction for the aforementioned, considering their lack of playing time and underwhelming numbers.

Morris makes for the best sell-high candidate, as he is an expiring contract who could earn a much more lucrative deal in the summer, despite his intentions of staying. The 6-foot-8 forward backtracked his commitment to the San Antonio Spurs in the summer, reportedly “ghosting” them after a verbal agreement on a two-year, $20 million deal — opting to sign with the Knicks instead.
