The New Orleans Pelicans and Philadelphia 76ers reportedly had discussions about a Ben Simmons for Anthony Davis trade, according to Bill Simmons of The Ringer.

Both Ben Simmons and Anthony Davis are represented by the same agent, Rich Paul of Klutch Sports, creating an interesting dynamic.

In the end, the Pelicans didn't trade Davis and will wait until the summer to move him. Simmons, on the other hand, will become eligible to sign a contract extension this summer with the Sixers.

“That's why I was so intrigued by the Ben Simmons for Davis (scenario),” Bill Simmons said on The Ringer podcast. “By the way, I heard there were conversations on both sides with that.”

Simmons, the reigning Rookie of the Year, is averaging 17.0 points, 9.4 rebounds and 8.0 assists per game for the Sixers while shooting 57.4 percent from the field. Philly acquired small forward Tobias Harris from the LA Clippers at the NBA trade deadline, putting together a Big Four of Joel Embiid, Jimmy Butler, Simmons and Harris.

Davis will play the rest of the season for the Pelicans. He can become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2020 if he declines his 2020-21 player option. It is widely assumed that AD wants to play for the Los Angeles Lakers and join forces with LeBron James, who is also represented by Rich Paul.
