Boston Celtics president Danny Ainge says star point guard Kyrie Irving is day-to-day with the eye injury he suffered against the San Antonio Spurs over the weekend.
Kyrie Irving received antibiotics after getting scratched in his eyes. The five-time All-Star didn't play on Wednesday versus the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Danny Ainge is obviously not a doctor, but the Celtics' architect would be surprised if Irving is out for an extended period of time:
Danny Ainge tells @Toucherandrich Kyrie Irving is "day-to-day" and, though he's not sure if Kyrie will play against the Mavs, he'd be surprised if the absence extends beyond Friday: "I'm not the doctor, so it's just a guess."

Kyrie Irving has been ruled out against the Dallas Mavericks.
Article Continues BelowIn 34 games this season for the Celtics, Irving is averaging 23.1 points, 4.9 rebounds and 6.6 assists per game while shooting 48.8 percent from the field, 40.8 percent from beyond the arc and 85.3 percent from the free-throw line.
The Celtics are 22-15 on the year, good for fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings.
Luckily for Boston, they have a high level backup point guard in Terry Rozier in case Irving needs to sit out multiple games. Rozier is one of the best reserve players in the NBA and would probably be a starter in the league if he wasn't backing up Irving.
Wednesday against the Timberwolves, Rozier posted 16 points, five assists and five steals in 32 minutes while shooting 6-of-10 from the floor and 2-of-5 from the 3-point line. The Celtics defeated the Timberwolves by a final score of 115-102.
