The Boston Celtics were expected to send the Indiana Pacers home while the surging Eastern Conference franchise did that and then some. With the Celtics taking down the shorthanded Pacers in a mere four games, Boston managed to complete the series sweep on Sunday afternoon in Indiana while officially advancing to the next round of the postseason in the process. Though an impressive feat even with the Pacers entering the opening round series without the services of injured shooting guard Victor Oladipo, Celtics small forward Gordon Haywards insists that this is only the beginning for Boston.
“There's nothing worse than sitting there and not be able to play in the playoffs especially,” Hayward told reporters, via RealGM. “So to be able to be with my teammates, be a part of something like this where we got a chance to sweep the Pacers, after everything that happened last year, it makes it all worth it — no doubt. And it's just the beginning for us. We still got a lot of work to do.”
The Celtics underperformed throughout the regular season, but have since hit their stride at the perfect time so it seems.
“It's been a long process to get back to where he probably feels as good as he does now,” added Celtics head coach Brad Stevens, via Real GM. “We knew that going in. We said all year [that] every 20 games he's going to be a little bit better, and he was big at the end of the game tonight for sure.”
Boston will now more than likely take on the top-seeded Milwaukee Bucks in the next round.
