Boston Celtics forward Gordon Hayward chose “Education Reform” as his jersey statement in the NBA bubble, and for a good reason.

Per Jared Weiss of The Athletic, Hayward explained why he chose the statement among the several words/phrases that were pre-approved by the league. The Celtics forward said that while education is a right, not everyone is getting access to it. Moreover, since arriving in Boston, he has made an effort to fill in that gap.

“Everybody should have an equal opportunity, and certainly there’s a lot of places that don’t and so it’s those places that really need our support…My wife and I have been in the education sector in Boston since we’ve gotten here,” Gordon Hayward shared.

Several other players also chose “Education Reform” as their statement. Among them are Kent Bazemore (Sacramento Kings), Ed Davis (Utah Jazz), DeMar DeRozan (San Antonio Spurs), Solomon Hill (Miami Heat), Kyle Lowry (Toronto Raptors), C.J. McCollum (Portland Trail Blazers), Markieff Morris (Los Angeles Lakers), Marcus Morris Sr. (Los Angeles Clippers), Georges Niang (Utah Jazz), and Garrett Temple (Brooklyn Nets).

Like the Celtics star, the aforementioned players also believe in the power of education. However, the potential of the students is not fully realized, as some public schools are underfunded and the teachers are underpaid. Lowry even noted that when he was a student, the curriculum did not properly teach African-American history.

With “Education Reform” etched in the players' jerseys, the whole world is not just being treated to some good old NBA action, but they are also getting a good idea of how much the education system needs help.
