The Boston Celtics continue to make headlines a few days in advance of free agency. After previously being linked to Kemba Walker in free agency when the moratorium lifts in a few days time, the Boston Celtics announced today that it has added former WNBA Player Kara Lawson to its coaching staff.
The Boston Celtics are hiring Kara Lawson as an assistant coach, league sources tell ESPN. Lawson, an ex-WNBA and Olympic champion, has been an NBA commentator with ESPN and the TV analyst for the Washington Wizards.

One of the newest Celtics, #22 overall draft pick Grant Williams, wasted no time in welcoming his new coach to the fold:

Lawson played 13 seasons in the NBA from 2003 to 2015 with the Sacramento Monarchs (where she won a championship in 2005), Connecticut Sun and Washington Mystics. The 38-year-old former Tennessee Volunteer made one All-Star Team in 2007.
Of course, the Celtics’ recent draft pick Williams also played at Tennessee, winning back-to-back SEC Player of the Year awards in his sophomore and junior seasons.
After her playing career ended, Lawson worked for ESPN and had been the color commentary analyst for the Washington Wizards on NBC Sports Washington.
The hiring of Lawson makes her the first woman coach in Boston Celtics franchise history, and she also joins a list of now eight women coaches currently in the NBA: Becky Hammon of the San Antonio Spurs, Lindsey Gottlieb of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Jenny Boucek of the Dallas Mavericks, Lindsey Harding of the Philadelphia 76ers, Natalie Nakase of the LA Clippers, Karen Stack-Umlauf of the Chicago Bulls and Kristi Toliver of the Washington Wizards.
