Even before he entered the NBA, a lot of eyes were already set on Jayson Tatum for his solid play during his days with the Duke Blue Devils. It has led to him being one of the consensus top picks in last June's draft, ultimately resulting in Tatum getting selected third overall by the Boston Celtics.

Since the start of the season, he has continued to play very well for them, showing off his impressive skill set which has helped his team win a lot of games.

To put into perspective how good of a rookie season he's having, the 20-year-old has a chance to match a feat set by Larry Bird, Hersey Hawkins, and Stephen Curry. If Tatum keeps up his current level of play, he could become just the fourth first-year player in NBA history to average at least 40 percent from beyond the arc and 80 percent from the foul line while averaging 30 minutes per game, according to Justin Kubatko of Basketball-reference.

Through 65 games, Tatum currently has averages of 13.2 points, including 43.5 percent from 3-point distance and 83.3 percent from the free-throw line, to go along with 5.0 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 30.3 minutes per game. His importance to the Celtics goes beyond his numbers though, as he has shown his prowess on both ends of the floor, and has complimented the games of Kyrie Irving and Al Horford well.

While most of the attention on the rookies this year has been given to Ben Simmons, Donovan Mitchell and Lonzo Ball, Tatum is also having a very good season of his own. He could also be liking the fact that he's not in the center of a lot of conversations, which allows him to just play his natural game and contribute to his team's cause.
