Jayson Tatum is already one of the best young players in the NBA. But the Boston Celtics forward could be even better this season with one simple offseason adjustment.

The Celtics star is going to work on one aspect of his game – drawing fouls. That's the plan according to Jayson Tatum's shooting coach Drew Hanlen, who emphasized how this one subtle change could unlock another gear for JT.

Via the Boston Herald:

“When Jayson shot a high volume of free throws, he put up huge numbers,” the Celtics star's shooting coach said. “That’s the big focus — being able to get downhill more, which allows him to get to the line more, which also allows him to add another dynamic to his game. That’s the focus.”

Jayson Tatum led the Celtics in FTA after he averaged a career-high 5.3 free throws per game this season. But some of his peers like Luka Doncic and Trae Young edge him out there by quite a bit. Doncic shot 7.1 from the stripe last season, but shot an absurd 9.2 attempts the previous year. Trae Young is known as a crafty foul-drawer, averaging 9.0 attempts between his last two season. If JT can match them in this area, he could very well challenge for the scoring title next year.

When it comes to superstar ceilings from the next generation of stars, Jayson Tatum's is widely considered to be one of the highest. The Celtics' franchise player has the skills, the work ethic, and the physical frame to be the best player in the league. Winning an MVP award in the future definitely seems in the cards. Why not have it come a tad early?
