Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum is about to surpass LeBron James for a playoff record, but an ugly one that is.
In the 2022 postseason, Tatum has been turning the ball over at a historical rate (via Stat Muse). Through 22 playoff games so far, he has already committed 91 turnovers, just three behind James' record of 94 turnovers in a single playoff run.
Tatum is averaging 4.1 turnovers, which means if it continues, he'll break LeBron's mark by Game 5 of their NBA Finals series with the Golden State Warriors.

The Celtics are struggling to take care of the ball, and quite clearly, Jayson Tatum is in the middle of that issue. In their Game 4 loss to the Warriors alone, the star forward committed six turnovers. So far in the NBA Finals, he has already made 14 TOs.
Head coach Ime Udoka has said before that lessening their turnovers will be crucial if the Celtics want to beat the Warriors, and sure enough, Tatum needs to lead the team in that regard.
With the series now tied at 2-2, it is more important than ever for the Celtics to limit their mistakes and be as perfect as they can be. If not, the Warriors can take advantage of it once again and punish them like they did the last time out.
