The Boston Celtics are arguably the most storied franchise in the NBA. With a league-leading 17 NBA titles and an extensive list of legendary players, establishing oneself amongst the greats is no easy task.

However, Pierce managed to do just that during his illustrious 15-year tenure as a Celtic. So it should come as no surprise that Boston announced a date for his jersey retirement ceremony through a tribute video prior to their matchup versus the Los Angeles Lakers:

It makes sense that Boston would wait until their matchup versus Los Angeles given Pierce was somewhat of a rarity for the fans having grown up a Lakers fan in nearby Inglewood, CA.

However, there was no holding back once he donned the green against his native team. According to ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk, the ceremony will take place February 11 versus the Cleveland Cavaliers:

He was an elite player in Boston during their years at the bottom of the Eastern Conference playoff race. Despite plenty of frustrating seasons, his loyalty was eventually rewarded with the signing of superstars Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen.

Pierce is certainly more than deserving of the honor. He was a 10-time All-Star and NBA champion in 2008. Before his departure, Pierce moved ahead of the legendary Larry Bird as the franchise's second all-time leading scorer.
