After Friday's Boston Celtics game, their star point guard Kyrie Irving went out to the crowd to give his father his jersey. The Celtics beat the New York Knicks 113-99. After the game, Irving was asked about how he felt about Knicks fans chanting for him.
Irving told Chris Forsberg of NBC Sports Boston:
“At this point its nothing more than a distraction, honestly… it's really about our team now and what we want to accomplish and that's a championship.”
The big news across the league this past week was the trade that the New York Knicks made with the Dallas Mavericks. The Knicks sent Kristaps Porzingis along with some bad contracts for DeAndre Jordan and Wesley Mathews, as well as Dennis Smith Jr. and two first round picks.
Article Continues BelowThe cap cleared up by this controversial deal gives the Knicks the option to sign two max contract players this upcoming offseason. The rumor has been that Kevin Durant would be leaving Golden State and Irving would leave Boston and would join up in New York.
It's not impossible that this happens. Durant could want to start his own team elsewhere, and the Knicks would offer him the limelight that he may want. But there have also been reports that Irving may go to the Lakers or even the Clippers as well. He's a free agent – he can go where he pleases.
Even though Knicks fans think Irving is all but there's, a lot can happen in the coming months. A potential Anthony Davis trade could shake the NBA to its very core. Until that happens, no one will have a clear picture of how the league will look moving forward.
