It was a gruesome injury that happened quite quickly without much preparation for it. The hardest part for Hayward was seeing how it impacted and affected his mother to see her son deal with that type of injury.

This emotional pain wasn't coming from the fact that he suffered a major injury, but rather that his parents had to see it happen in person hit home for the 27-year-old. It's something that has continued to stick with Hayward since the injury occurred more than two weeks ago.

On the flipside, it may provide more internal motivation for him to return to the court to prove to his family that he can overcome such a horrific injury. There is clearly still some emotional hurdles that Hayward must get past first, but this could be a stepping stone in his career.
