Superstar guard James Harden just made a crucial decision that could very well affect his short and long-term future with the Brooklyn Nets.

According to Jordan Schultz of ESPN, Harden has decided to part ways with his sports agents Jason Ranne and Chafie Fields of Wasserman. He will now be represented by his friend Lorenzo McCloud and the NBPA.

The timing of the deal is particularly interesting since James Harden is set to start his extension talks with the Nets. His current contract runs until the 2022-23 season, but he has a player option and could very well opt out after 2021-22 if he doesn't agree to an extension any time in the near future.

While there is definitely no rush when it comes to the contract talks between Harden's camp and the Nets, GM Sean Marks has already hinted they aim to get it done before training camp begins in late September. After all, they wouldn't want any doubts about the future of their Big 3 linger while preparing for another big campaign.

For what it's worth, Kevin Durant has already signed a four-year, $198 million extension with the Nets earlier this August. With that, Brooklyn is now shifting their focus on ensuring that James Harden and Kyrie Irving will get to spend their prime years alongside KD.

It remains to be seen how the change in representation will impact Harden's deal with the Nets. However, as Schultz noted, it was his previous agents who facilitated the deal to Brooklyn.
