The New York Knicks pulled off the upset in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals against the Boston Celtics on Monday night, and it was an absolute thriller. The Celtics led by as many 20 points in the second half, and the Knicks came all the way back to force overtime. Jayson Tatum had some chances to get the Celtics a win in regulation, but he couldn't get it done.

Jayson Tatum missed mutliple threes in the final minute of regulation with a chance to potentially win the game for the Celtics, and he was 0/7 from deep in the fourth quarter. His shot selection wasn't great, and fans are now letting him hear about it on social media.

“My mom asked me if I did the dishes , I said ‘Jayson Tatum'. She cried tears of joy because she knew they were washed,” one fan said.

Tatum is definitely one of the best players in this series, but if the Celtics are going to advance, he needs to start rising up in the biggest moments. He did not do that in Game 1.

“Jayson Tatum would be Harden without Brown,” one fan posted. “He always disappear when it matters the most in the playoffs. I mean who won the MVP last year. JB is the guy for them.”

The shot selection from Tatum in the late stages of the game were especially puzzling. The game was tied in the last minute when Tatum had a chance to give them the lead, and he took an unnecessary three.

“Jayson Tatum wonders why fans ‘disrespect' his game,” another fan said. “Maybe its because he for years has shown a willingness to settle for bad shots in crunch time. Stepback threes in the final minute of playoff games aint the right play for him. Yet he keeps doing it over. And over. And over.”

Moments like the one late in Game 1 is what is keeping Tatum from being one of the best players in the NBA.

“Jayson Tatum is not a tier 1 superstar in this league,” a fan said. “The constant decision making to take stepback 3s and not even try to do anything different is just inexcusable.”

Tatum's performance in Game 1 was so bad that it has fans wondering what happened to him.

“I need to know what happened to Jayson Tatum tonight,” a fan wrote. “I can't believe what I watched. He didn't run the offense. He literally did nothing except take contested step back 3s for 2 quarters and OT. Why not post up? Why not drive and force the issue? It doesn't make sense.”

Jayson Tatum is absolutely going to have to be better in Game 2 if the Celtics want to avoid a 2-0 hole going to New York. Game 1 was ugly, but there is still a lot of time for Boston to turn this series around.

Game 2 between the Celtics and Knicks will go down at 7:00 ET on Wednesday night from TD Garden in Boston, and the game will be airing on TNT, truTV and Max. The Celtics are favored by 9.5 points.
