In light of that, Irving might know a thing or two about what makes an NBA culture great. The Celtics are widely considered one of best franchises not only in the NBA but all of sports.

But the Spurs have been possibly THE marquee franchise for the last 20 years, starting with the arrival of Tim Duncan. And even though Duncan is now retired, the Spurs keep chugging along.

Irving is a great player in his own right and will grow to become even better as the years go on. For him to give the Spurs that kind of praise is kind of a big deal.

And who knows? Maybe he'll tire of playing for Brad Stevens and with Gordon Hayward after a few years and jump the Spurs. He's certainly laying the groundwork pretty early if that's what he decides to do.
