The Dallas Mavericks' struggles to open up the 2025-26 season continued on Monday night with a narrow road loss vs the Miami Heat. The Mavericks now sit at 5-14 on the campaign, and have had to play the better part of the last month without Anthony Davis, who has been out of the lineup due to injury.
However, on Tuesday, the team finally got a positive update regarding Davis' future status.
“The Mavericks' Anthony Davis is scheduled to practice Wednesday in a bid to be cleared for his first game action since Oct. 29. Dallas plays the Lakers on Friday night in Los Angeles followed by the Clippers on Saturday,” reported NBA insider Marc Stein on X, formerly Twitter.
“He's working to get back,” said head coach Jason Kidd.
The Mavericks would certainly like to see Davis back in the lineup for at least one of those upcoming games in Los Angeles, although it would appear highly unlikely that he plays in both ends of a back to back coming off an injury, especially at his age.
Still, Davis should allow the Mavericks to be at least somewhat competitive again, if not a legitimate contender, once he returns to the lineup, and will also help to take some of the pressure off rookie number one overall draft pick Cooper Flagg to create offense.
Once Kyrie Irving is also back in the fray, Dallas could finally have a legit team on its hands.
In any case, the Mavericks and Lakers are set to tip off on Friday at 10:00 pm ET.
