On Wednesday, the Dallas Mavericks elected to shake things up by trading Anthony Davis to the Washington Wizards in a package centered around young players and draft compensation. The move officially solidifies Cooper Flagg's role as the number one option on the team moving forward, and allows the Mavericks to further distance themselves from the remnants of the disastrous Luka Doncic trade a year ago.

Davis, of course, was the primary piece that the Mavericks got back in that deal, which was orchestrated by the since-fired Nico Harrison, and recently, ESPN sports media personality Stephen A. Smith hit the Mavericks with a harsh truth.

“It looks like arguably the worst trade in history,” said Smith, per First Take on X, formerly Twitter.

Many were uttering similar words in the minutes and hours after Shams Charania broke news of the trade just over one year ago, and nothing that has happened for Dallas in the months since has disproven the brazen claim.

While Luka Doncic's tenure with the Lakers hasn't exactly been a glowing success so far, it's safe to say that the Mavericks did not get what they were hoping to out of Davis, who played just 29 games in his Dallas tenure, dealing with frequent injuries.

Now, the Mavericks are officially turning the page to the Flagg era, which began when they lucked into the number one overall pick in the draft last spring.

Had that not occurred, the Mavericks might be in the worst situation of any team in the NBA at the current juncture, but thankfully, Flagg is already looking like a future superstar, having recently dropped 49 points against the Charlotte Hornets, all while the Mavericks continue to lose and get closer to adding another theoretical blue chip prospect next summer.

In any case, the Mavericks will next hit the floor on Thursday night vs the San Antonio Spurs.
