Despite failing to make the team for the All-Star game on Sunday Feb. 17, Dallas Mavericks' rookie Luka Doncic will still be plenty busy for the festivities that weekend. Not only will he be competing in the Rising Stars Challenge and the Skills Challenge, according to BetOnline.ag, the rookie sensation is favored to win the Skills Challenge.
Doncic has made a name for himself as one of the most promising and versatile young stars in the league already. Among all rookies in the NBA, the 19-year-old Dallas Maverick is in the front of the pack in terms of scoring and is second in terms of assists and rebounds. He is also the only rookie to lead his team in scoring for the season.
It has no doubt been an impressive first year campaign for Doncic, who has plenty of experience playing overseas. He has already made history by becoming the youngest player to record a 30-point triple double and has his Dallas Mavericks just under .500 at 23-37.
Article Continues BelowFor a little while, it appeared that he would be making an appearance in the All-Star game in just his first season, too. He was in second place among all fan votes for All-Star starters in the Western Conference, ahead of names like Kevin Durant and James Harden.
In the end, though, the media and player votes kept him out of the mix and the coaches opted for other players in place of Doncic when selecting the reserves. There will likely be many All-Star selections for the young European player in his NBA career, however, and his debut at All-Star weekend this season is set to be a big one.
