The reserves were announced for the NBA All-Star game Thursday night, leaving many players such as Khris Middleton and Ben Simmons excited to make their All-Star weekend debut. Some players, though, fell just short of the cut– most notably Luka Doncic. After making waves in fan voting and barely missing out on being a starter for the Western Conference players, Doncic was left out of the reserve selections as well. In a video shared to Twitter by SportsCenter, the rookie seems less than thrilled to hear the news.

Doncic has every reason to feel let down, as the 19-year-old rookie is putting up impressive numbers in his first season in the league. Through 49 games, Doncic is averaging 20.4 points, 6.9 rebounds, 5.4 assists, and 1.1 steals for the season. He has been the lead scorer and go-to option for the Mavericks throughout the season. Despite playing incredible basketball, it was still unlikely that Doncic would make an All-Star team in his first year. In the last 20 years, only two players — Blake Griffin and Yao Ming– have made their way into the All-Star game as rookies.

Thankfully, it appears that he will still be plenty busy come the All-Star weekend. He is slated to participate in the Skills Challenge as well as play with Team World in the Rising Stars Challenge.
This will assuredly give Luka fuel to show off for the remainder of the season. Having already recorded his first 30-point triple double and put up performances placing him alongside names like LeBron James, there aren’t many people left he needs to impress, though.
