The Dallas Mavericks have reportedly been exploring potential Anthony Davis trade scenarios for the last few weeks as they look to hand over the reins of the franchise to number one overall draft pick Cooper Flagg, who has gotten off to a strong start to his NBA career. Unfortunately, Davis' massive contract and injury history have not made that an easy task up to this point.

Recently, sports media personality Bill Simmons of The Ringer floated a potential trade idea that would see Davis join the New York Knicks.

“I feel like I ask this question every three weeks but would you think about Davis for (Karl-Anthony) Towns?” wondered Simmons.

“A couple of weeks ago the answer was no because Towns was having a good year and Davis hadn’t proven he could even stay on the court. Now I think it’s a little more reasonable,” he added.

Karl-Anthony Towns has been having a rough stretch for the Knicks over the last couple of weeks, putting up some shockingly low numbers as the team has suffered through a four-game losing streak.

However, Davis hasn't exactly been lighting it up, at least by his Hall of Fame standards, for the Mavericks this year either, and has also struggled to stay on the court due to injury, which has been an issue for him throughout his career.

At this point, it would seem unlikely that the Knicks consider making such a move, although some fans pointed out during last year's Eastern Conference Finals loss to the Indiana Pacers that New York's best two players, Towns and Jalen Brunson, both being negative defenders made them an untenable championship-level duo. Defense certainly wouldn't be an issue for Davis.

In any case, it remains to be seen if anything will materialize on the Davis trade front at all, let alone a blockbuster deal with the Knicks for Towns.
