Detroit Pistons center Andre Drummond gave the fans in “Motor City” a pretty solid scare this week after saying he's “excited” to enter free agency next summer. However, Drummond has since clarified his remarks, emphasizing he was simply attempting to say that he is excited to become a free agent for the first time.
The All-Star center added his comments doesn't mean he wants to leave Detroit, pointing out that he loves the city.
“For those who are confused about my comment about free agency let me break this down,” he said on social media. “My point was I’m excited to go thru the process because I never been thru it, doesn’t mean I’m trying to leave Detroit . I love it here.”

The 26-year-old Pistons center is one of the franchise's cornerstones, so it will certainly be a huge blow to the middling Eastern Conference franchise if the former UConn standout were to ultimately leave.
Drummond's has a player option worth $28.8 million for the 2020-21 season. He could hit the open market as an unrestricted free agent next summer if he decides to decline that option.
Drummond was originally selected by the Pistons with the ninth overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft and has spent his entire career in Detroit.
