Detroit Pistons point guard Derrick Rose is garnering trade interest from a few teams with the trade deadline looming, most notably the Los Angeles Lakers and Philadelphia 76ers.
However, it looks like the Pistons are going to keep the former MVP in The Motor City, and Rose is apparently fine with that, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium:
“He wants to be in Detroit,” Charania said on the Hoops Hype Podcast with Alex Kennedy. “Derrick feels at home and Detroit has embraced him with open arms.”
Rose is averaging 18.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 5.8 assists in 44 games for the Pistons this season. He’s shooting 49.8 percent from the field, 31.5 percent from beyond the arc and 85.9 percent from the free-throw line.
The Pistons guard is currently out with an adductor strain. He didn't play against the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday and won't play on Wednesday versus the Phoenix Suns either.
The vice chairman of the Pistons is Arn Tellem, who was Rose’s agent before. Odds are the front office will have discussions with Rose and his camp before anything goes down, but it appears Detroit values Rose and his veteran leadership.
The Pistons are 18-34 on the season. They are in 11th place in the Eastern Conference standings. While fans would love to see Rose compete in the playoffs, it really sounds like he's comfortable with the Pistons despite all the losing that is taking place in Detroit.
For his career, Rose averages 22.7 points and 6.6 assists in the postseason.
