Since the Golden State Warriors made the acquisition of Kevin Durant last summer, they have received the brunt of the criticism for unfairly putting a powerhouse team that has dominated the league.

However, that is not an opinion shared by Portland Trail Blazers guard C.J. McCollum regarding the formation of the Warriors as he stated during an interview on the HoopsHype podcast with Alex Kennedy that he believes they just did their due diligence.

“I think that's garbage man. They have done things the right. It's not like they cheated. They drafted well, developed players within – Steph, Klay, Draymond. Those players were drafted then they bring in an outsider in KD, who was a free agent that had every right to sign with whatever team he wanted. I don't understand how that's considered bad for the game. If anything, other teams need to get better and need to figure out ways to execute trades, to execute the draft, develop players internally, and try to put something together.”

McCollum has brought up a valid point as the Warriors' front office has done a strong job putting together a championship caliber team in many different ways. They first built the foundation behind drafting well with Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green each developing into some of the best players in the league over the last few years.

That alone is a testament to their collective hard work to become All-Star caliber players while Mark Jackson helped form a culture around the team that Steve Kerr came in and built upon to create a team that has been to the NBA Finals three straight times while winning a pair of NBA titles.

The addition of Durant came about due to the work of the organization putting themselves in the position to be considered by the All-Star forward as being the place he believes he can win an NBA title. It was multitude things beyond just Durant joining the team that helped get them where they are now.

That said, the criticism and disdain will always be there regardless of what they accomplish on the court together.
