Hall of Famer Chris Mullin does not believe that the Golden State Warriors took Kevin Durant for granted.

Former NBA player Kendrick Perkins said that he was not surprised of Durant's decision to leave the Warriors because he was taken for granted in the Bay Area. However, Mullin refuted Perkins' assessment during his appearance on The Jump with Rachel Nichols.

Mullin said that from a basketball standpoint, it does not look that Durant was taken for granted at all. The former Warriors general manager said that it was obvious that Durant was still the best player on the team. It is worth noting that even Steph Curry and Klay Thompson previously recognized him as the best player in Golden State.

It was well publicized that Durant is unhappy in Golden State because of how he was treated by their fans. Mullin said that he understood why fans are more attached to Curry, Thompson, and Draymond Green. He pointed out that those three players were drafted by the Warriors, while Durant was just a big free-agency acquisition in 2016.

“I don't think he was taken for granted from a basketball standpoint,” Mullin said of Durant. “But as far as the love, they're gonna lean towards the guys they drafted.”

Durant had a chance to exercise his player option to stay in Golden State for another year but he opted to test free agency despite the fact that he is expected to miss the rest of next season due to an Achilles injury. He eventually agreed to a four-year, $164 million deal with the Brooklyn Nets.
