As the trade deadline approaches, D'Angelo Russell will have to tiptoe the murky waters of the ensuing rumors that could surface between now and the Feb. 6 cutout date. The Golden State Warriors guard has been rumored to be potentially dealt before the deadline in favor of future assets and role players, though the team has denied any plans to do so and reportedly still has no interest in a trade.

Russell is also adamant of wanting to make the Bay Area his home for a long time:

“I would love for this to be home,” Russell said from his chair in the Warriors’ San Francisco practice facility, according to Wes Goldberg of The Mercury News. “I have a four-year contract. I would love to be here even three years. That would set my record.”

Russell has never been with a franchise for longer than two seasons, traded after his first pair with the Los Angeles Lakers and seeing his tenure with the Brooklyn Nets come to a close after two seasons, as he was signed and traded for Kevin Durant this past summer.

The 23-year-old is putting up strong numbers as the go-to offensive option in this lineup, but he has been dealing with a slew of injuries this season, keeping him from building momentum.

The Warriors have been careful bringing him back from several injuries this season, a sign that they might in fact keep him past the deadline. Golden State could also trade him after this season, but that would be a more difficult conversation, as teams no longer have the desperation factor playing a part as they try to fix up their rosters.

If D'Angelo Russell does indeed stay with the Warriors after the 2020-21 season, it would be the longest he has ever been with any NBA team.
