Durant said:

“It's amazing that players are starting to take control of their careers and I think prioritizing winning is what basketball has always been about. That's why we all started to play because we all wanted to win and have some fun out there. I love what's going on right now.”

He's not wrong. Players seem to have more power now than they've ever had in the history of the NBA. Players like Durant and DeMarcus Cousins are making decisions based on wanting to win and it's hard to blame them.

On the other hand, many fans understand what Durant is saying, but they also want to see the best players competing against one another, rather than joining forces.

For basketball players, they're living in a golden age where they have a lot of power to decide where they want to play and what other players they want to play with.

Unfortunately for many fans, the perception that there is no competitive balance or parity throughout the league could turn some fans off to the NBA. In truth, the NBA has never been about parity. It's only recently where that lack of parity has come from the players wielding more power than ever before.
