The Golden State Warriors got punched in the mouth by the Dallas Mavericks in a lopsided affair, 133-103. The nail in their night's coffin was an immense Warriors drought that lasted nine minutes, leading to a 28-0 Mavs run.
Head coach Steve Kerr shared his honest thoughts on the stretch that sealed their fate.

-"They came out like it was a playoff game. We came out like it was an exhibition."
-"I'm the head coach. I didn't have them ready to play."

As concerning as the Warriors giving up a 28-0 run was, that was obviously an anomaly more than anything. The Warriors had some open looks that just didn't go down. It was probably because Luka Doncic drank all of the Warriors' secret stuff tonight, as he torched Golden State for 39 points through three quarters.

While even the best teams have cold stretches out of their control, Steve Kerr was more concerned about the things they could have done. The Warriors are a top-10 ranked defensive team this season, and yet they looked like a bottom-feeder against a Mavs squad playing on the second night of a back-to-back on the road. If you were a betting man, it felt like the opposite was more likely to happen.
Instead of pile on his already dejected squad, Kerr took the fall for not getting his guys ready for the contest. The loss certainly stings much more given its implications in the Western Conference playoff race. A win would have put Golden State just 2.5 games out of the 6th seed the Mavs currently hold, assuring safety from the play-in tournament.
Instead, the Warriors are still clinging to the 10th and final spot for a chance to make the playoffs. They'll have a chance to get back over .500 once again when they take on the streaking Minnesota Timberwolves.
