Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr can still remember clearly how he felt when they had to trade Andre Iguodala in 2019. After all, it was a heartbreaking moment for the veteran tactician.

Speaking to Zach Lowe of ESPN, Kerr admitted that he was “crushed” to see Iguodala go. He was a key part of the Warriors' five straight runs to the NBA Finals at the time, with his presence helping the team win three titles in the process.

Naturally, Kerr was shocked and disappointed. Iguodala, however, saw it coming.

“I was crushed,” Kerr said. “Like, ‘Oh my god, I can't believe we are losing part of our soul.'

“He said something like, ‘Sorry, coach, I'm not surprised. He probably knew it was coming before I did.”

The Warriors needed to move Andre Iguodala in a bid to create cap space and make a trade or sign a player to replace Klay Thompson, who suffered a torn ACL during the 2018-19 Finals against the Toronto Raptors.  Golden State was able to land D'Angelo Russell, whom they eventually sent to the Minnesota Timberwolves to acquire Andrew Wiggins.

Fortunately for Steve Kerr and the Warriors, their separation with Iguodala didn't last long. The veteran swingman returned to the team in the offseason ahead of 2021-22. In his comeback, the Dubs also returned to relevance with a healthy roster.

Now, Iguodala is back to the NBA Finals as he, Stephen Curry and the rest of the Warriors attempt to win another championship. While his health remains a concern, it's quite clear his veteran presence has been huge for the team.
