The Los Angeles Lakers are 2-2 through four games this season, which is a respectable record considering how much Lonzo Ball has struggled with his shot. Although he had a nice 29-point explosion against the Phoenix Suns, the Lakers’ rookie point guard is still averaging just 11.5 points on a miserable 31 percent shooting.

According to Tania Ganguli of the Los Angeles Times, Ball acknowledged how much easier it would be to win games if he’d just make more of his shots. However, he said he was still going to do rebound, defend, and pass to the open man even with his shot not falling.

Ball’s consistency as a scorer was the one big knock on him coming out of college. While his funky shooting motion wasn’t much of a problem at UCLA, it’s been magnified with better competition in the NBA.

But Ball’s ability to influence a game in so many other ways apart from his scoring was part of what made him such a tantalizing prospect. Even with his shot not going in at the moment, he’s still showing the rest of his impressive repertoire, as he’s averaging nine rebounds and nine assists per game.

It remains to be seen whether Ball’s wayward shot can sort itself out soon or even within this season. But what is pretty certain is that he’ll do just about everything else to help his team win.
