The game on Wednesday between the L.A. Clippers and Golden State Warriors is a highly anticipated one as both teams have had hotly contested matchups the past couple of seasons. With both teams having multiple stars, it also adds to the excitement fans have as they will be given a chance to see them compete against each other. However, the Los Angeles team will be shorthanded once again on the night.

After suffering a concussion from an elbow to the head during Saturday’s game, also featuring both teams, Blake Griffin will not be cleared from the NBA’s protocol in time for Wednesday’s tip-off.

Griffin’s absence is a huge blow to the Clippers as he is their top-scorer and focal point of their offense. With averages of 22.8 points, 7.5 rebounds and 5.2 assists in 24 games, he is giving the team a reliable performer who keeps the defense of their opponents focused on him, resulting to easy baskets for his teammates.

The league’s concussion protocol was designed to look after the players’ safety first and will have them go through a series of tests with increasing difficulty. Once they show no signs of being affected by the concussion anymore, that’s the only time they’ll be cleared and allowed to resume all basketball-related activities. Griffin’s next chance to return to action will be on Thursday or Saturday when they face the Sacramento Kings in a home-and-away set.
