The Los Angeles Lakers surprised the basketball world as they pulled off an upset against the San Antonio Spurs on the road. Despite entering the matchup as underdogs, they did not perform as such and played at their best to come out with the victory, even if they were shorthanded.

Luke Walton gave his players a lot of praise for their performance and saw it as a good experience for them.

The second-year head coach also added, via Spectrum SportsNet, that it was something they could learn from, knowing that it's never over until the final buzzer sounds. The Lakers were trailing in the fourth quarter but did not give up, until they were able to take control of the game.

“Our guys kept fighting. I told them we played hard all game. We didn’t play smart, but we stuck around. In the NBA, it’s a good learning experience for them to see you’re never really out of a game. … There hasn’t been a ton of games like that for us. It was a great experience for the guys. … It wasn’t a pretty game by the standards we want to play at,
but obviously we’re thrilled about being able to pull that one out.”

The young Lakers are currently winners of five straight games, including a perfect 4-0 in the recently concluded road trip. It was the first time where they went undefeated over that stretch since a 6-0 run on the road back in the 2008-09 season.

They are currently in 11th place in the Western Conference and six-and-a-half games behind the Denver Nuggets for the last playoff spot.

Making it to the postseason is a tall order for them at this point, but not mathematically impossible. Whatever the outcome is for them this season though, there's still a lot of positive takeaways for the Lakers, including their win against the Spurs, who are perennial title contenders.
