The Dallas Mavericks and the Oklahoma City Thunder have been battling it out for the duration of Wednesday night's Western Conference showdown. The Thunder are currently the seventh best team in the NBA and were up against one of the worst teams in the league.

That still didn't stop the showdown from becoming an entertaining affair. Down by two points with 6.8 seconds left, the Mavs forced the Thunder into overtime with a timely put-back courtesy of Dwight Powell.

Although the Thunder would go on to win the game 111-110, this was definitely an interesting matchup for the Mavs. Earlier in February, Dallas team owner Mark Cuban blatantly admitted on a podcast that he fostered the idea of tanking to his team, earning him a $600,000 fine from the NBA.

“I'm probably not supposed to say this, but, like, I just had dinner with a bunch of our guys the other night, and here we are, you know, we weren't competing for the playoffs. I was like, ‘Look, losing is our best option,' ” Cuban said. “Adam would hate hearing that, but I at least sat down and I explained it to them. And I explained what our plans were going to be this summer, that we're not going to tank again. This was, like, a year-and-a-half of tanking, and that was too brutal for me. But being transparent, I think that's the key to being kind of a players' owner and having stability.”

Cuban has obviously learned his lesson and the Mavs are likely going to compete for the rest of the season at their highest level. Hopefully, the Mavericks can perform at this level moving forward.
