After Bam Adebayo hit the game-winning shot against the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday, Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra broke down the play, noting how critical the eye contact was between him and the forward.

Per Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald, Spoelstra — using his eyes — told Adebayo to make sure that the Nets will have no chance to get the ball back whether the shot goes in or not.

“Once it went to Bam, he handled it the right way. He looked over to the bench. At that point, we just made eye contact, my hands were up and it was like, ‘OK, it just better be the last shot.'”

Adebayo, for his part, believes the big win over the Nets could boost their momentum with less than 20 games left in the regular season. The win snaps the Heat's three-game losing streak. They now have a 29-28 record for seventh in the East.

The 2020-21 NBA season hasn't been the ideal year for the Heat fresh off their NBA Finals trip last season. Many expected the team to dominate the East yet things have not panned out according to plan. Nevertheless, the Heat still has an advantage over the rest of the Eastern squads: they know how difficult it is to make the NBA Finals.

As such, Heat fans should expect their team to be as hungry as ever in the remaining regular-season games. Perhaps the goal is to move up at least to the sixth seed so as not to participate in the play-in tournament.
