On Wednesday, another tragic mass shooting occurred, this time at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. While an exact number of fatalities is still unavailable, authorities have estimated that at least 17 lives in the school have been lost in the shooting. Video of the horrific incident was captured almost instantaneously after it happened, where gunshots could be heard in the distance.
This has sparked an outpouring of anger as well as sadness across the United States, and in the Miami Heat organization as well. Earlier on Wednesday afternoon prior to tipoff, Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra gave his thoughts and prayers to those affected by the shooting, per Ian Winderman of the Sun Sentinel.
“I'd like to just say our thoughts and prayers to all the students and families and teachers, everybody in Parkland that's suffering from just an incredibly tragic and absolutely senseless act,” coach Erik Spoelstra said before taking basketball questions. “It's horrifying, as we're finding more information about it. I just want them to know we're thinking about them. It makes this game feel totally insignificant. And it's just mind-boggling.”

Heat star Dwyane Wade also chimed in on the shooting's victims.
“Anytime something that happens anywhere in the world it's sad,” he said as he got into uniform at Wells Fargo Center. “And a lot of speculation is on why. I think as a parent you always fear for your kids leaving the house, period, but one of the safest places is school.”
The NBA is a down-to-earth organization that openly acknowledges that there are more important issues than basketball in the United States and around the world. Hopefully, the injured victims in this incident can make a speedy recovery soon.
