There has been a lot of internet talk about the Miami Heat recently. Tonight, they have a chance to grab hold of the Eastern Conference's third seed away from the Cleveland Cavaliers. Coincidentally, the Cavs host the Heat tonight at Quicken Loans Arena. But their team success is not the only reason they have prompted discussion.
The Heat are the only top-four team in both conferences without a player selected to the 2018 All-Star game. After all, no team is this successful without one or two All-Star caliber players leading them. But neither Goran Dragic nor Hassan Whiteside, the two most deserving players in the team, received an All-Star game invitation. All of this could change very soon.
During the Cavaliers' 114-125 loss to the Detroit Pistons last night, Kevin Love fractured a finger on his left hand and left the game early. A report by ESPN's DaveMcMenamin said Love is expected to miss from six to eight weeks. This means somebody else needs to take his spot on Team LeBron for the Feb. 18 NBA All-Star game, and Dragic is one of the frontrunners to be named as a replacement for Love. He averages 17 points, 4.8 assists, and 4.1 rebounds a game.

Former teammate Dwyane Wade showed support for Dragic's All-Star case through social media in hopes commissioner Adam Silver needs some help to make a decision:
It’s time to put @Goran_Dragic in the AllStar game @NBA

It is fair to assume Hassan Whiteside is also deserving of an All-Star spot, as he averages 14.6 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks. But after Andre Drummond was named as the injury replacement for John Wall, it is highly unlikely the league office replaces Love with another center. It usually does not take too long for the NBA to confirm a replacement player after an injury, so there should be a word on that topic soon.
