Despite losing their past two games, the Miami Heat are still considered as one of the top teams in the East right now. Prior to Tuesday's matchup against the Toronto Raptors, the 32-19 Heat are just one game behind the top-seeded Chicago Bulls in the loss column. Miami's strong showing in the first half of the season already has a lot of people talking about this team's title credentials this term.
Heat icon and Hall of Fame big man Shaquille O'Neal has just doused some ice-cold water on this notion. In the mind of the four-time NBA champ, he just doesn't see Miami going all the way this season:
“Make the NBA finals? That’s a tough one,” Shaq told heavy.com. “I think the Heat will make the playoffs and have a good little run but this isn’t their year. They’re due for one… It’ll come.”
Shaq isn't even confident that the Heat will win the Eastern Conference title, let alone the NBA championship. There's so much talent in the East right now and O'Neal just doesn't think that Miami has enough juice to get through the likes of the Brooklyn Nets or the Milwaukee Bucks.
To be fair, Shaq did say that the Heat are “due for one.” The 49-year-old definitely sees the potential in this current group and he clearly believes that it's only going to be a matter of time before they bring home the title. It's just that it's not going to be this season.
