NBA veteran and longtime Miami Heat power forward Udonis Haslem is trying his hand on the business industry. Haslem will be opening a new business in downtown Miami, per Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

“Udonis Haslem, who is expected to return to the Heat, on Friday opened an Einstein Bagels at MiamiCentral, a new business complex in downtown Miami.”

With retirement looming for the Heat role player likely next summer, Haslem will join a list of NBA players who have been active in business ventures. Aside from the Einstein Bagels, the 38-year old forward also owns other major businesses in Miami.

“Haslem also has ownership in a second Einstein Bagels at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami; he also has a Starbucks at that Jackson campus. Both of these are licensed agreements through JFC Miami.”

“He said in January that he has majority ownership in five Subway franchises and two Auntie Anne’s Pretzels franchises in Miami-Dade and Broward counties.”

Haslem's success on and off the court is truly an inspiring story. The three-time NBA champion went undrafted in the 2002 draft before the Heat signed him to a contract. His willingness to do everything for the team made him the ultimate ‘glue guy' both on the court and inside the locker room.

In an interview with Alex Toledo of the Heat Beat, Haslem emphasized that the purpose of his businesses is to provide more opportunities for the people in Miami.

“For me, it’s just being able to provide jobs for my community. When I look back, I got my brother-in-law working here, I’ve hired people that went to school with my father, and I’ve hired one of my best friend’s sisters. You know for me, this just started with the opportunity to provide jobs for family and friends.”

“My main focus is putting other people in a position to be successful.”

Haslem will look to juggle his basketball and business duties this year as the Heat expects him to return for the upcoming 2018-19 season.
