This season, the San Antonio Spurs have looked like one of the worst teams in the NBA. They've had some success in a few games and have certainly battled against some very good teams, but they simply can't seem to finish and win games that should be won.
The Spurs have a lot of needs heading into the trade deadline, and one of them is going to be dealing a couple of their players, most importantly Thaddeus Young, who may fetch a good return if they make the proper move. Thaddeus Young might be compared to PJ Tucker, who helped the Milwaukee Bucks win a championship last season, and could benefit the Spurs in the coming weeks because they could get a better return than he would have gotten a year ago. Thaddeus Young is still a top-tier defender who is worth at least a first-round pick or a young player.
Let's take a look at the biggest need for the San Antonio Spurs going into this year's trade deadline.

What is the team's future?
Article Continues BelowThe biggest concern facing this Spurs team as the trade deadline approaches is what they want to do with the organization's future.
There have been some recent reports that Dejounte Murray could be traded this offseason, and while he could get a big return if they are going to go through a rebuild, it just wouldn't make sense for the Spurs to do so because when they are finally championship contenders again, he is the perfect guy to have on the team to not only help speed up this process, but also be the number one option on a championship team.
Dejounte Murray is averaging nearly a triple-double this season, scoring 19.4 points per game while also grabbing 8.4 rebounds and dishing out nine assists.
It wouldn't make much sense for the Spurs to decide to move him regardless of how they want to go in the next few seasons. Instead of embarking on a rebuilding phase, they could consider trading some of their players who they don't believe will be a part of the team's future. Derrick White, Jakob Poeltl, Devin Vassell, Doug McDermott, and others could all be traded for this team to get back the correct returns that they are looking for to potentially pair a star next to Dejounte Murray, or bring in better role players to better accompany him to try to turn this thing around. If they can just bring in the right pieces, they will be in good hands moving forward with Murray being their best player.
The Spurs are in for an interesting few months, and the trade deadline might signal the start of a rebuilding process. They have to recognize that head coach Gregg Popovich may be in his last season, and that the outlook for this franchise will shift dramatically in the coming months. This is going to be one of the most important trade deadlines in recent memory for the San Antonio Spurs, and if they blow it, they might be in this situation for a lot longer than they need to be.
