The 2022 Oscars turned up a bunch of notches when Will Smith walked on stage and slapped Chris Rock for making a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. Will was upset about the comedian making a G.I. Jane 2 quip, because Jada is dealing with alopecia and the King Richard star thought the joke was out of line.

The Oscars altercation sent shockwaves throughout social media and has brought out a cacophony of takes. One person who weighed in was former NBA player Charlie Villanueva, who knows a thing or two about dealing with harassment over alopecia. If you're not aware, Villanueva once alleged that Kevin Garnett called him a “cancer patient” during a game, though KD denied using that exact phrase.

Here's what Villanueva said about the Oscars incident involving Will Smith and Chris Rock:

Even setting KG aside, Villanueva has surely heard his share of jokes about his condition. This is something personal to him that hits home. He even notes here that while he doesn't condone violence, he's on Team Will because of how he defended his wife over the joke.

While Will Smith went over the line with his reaction Rock's jab, it's at least not hard to understand why he was mad about it. Should he have gone up on stage and slapped a man on live television? Probably not, but Villanueva gets why he did it.

As for Kevin Garnett, he couldn't believe his eyes when he saw what happened at the Oscars:
