Whenever this season's rookies are being talked about, the usual names that emerge are Ben Simmons, Donovan Mitchell, Lonzo Ball and even Lauri Markkanen, among others. However, Brooklyn Nets big man Jarrett Allen has also been playing well of late, and wants to be included in the conversation of the best first-year players this campaign.

The 19-year-old Texas product once again turned a lot of heads on Monday during their game against the Chicago Bulls. During the early minutes of the third quarter, Allen soared high for a vicious tomahawk slam and posterized Markkanen in the process. His impressive move left the crowd inside Barclays Center in awe of what they saw as they couldn't believe how powerful his dunk was.

Allen started the season relatively slow but has since picked up the pace when the year turned. He now owns averages of 7.6 points, on 58.5 percent shooting from the field, to go along with 5.1 rebounds per game. The 6-foot-11 big man is also receiving more playing time from head coach Kenny Atkinson, especially with the team opting to give their young guns the opportunity to gain more experience.

The Nets are one of the bottom teams in the Eastern Conference and they do not have a lot to cheer about this season. But Allen's emergence as a future star is definitely a silver lining for the team. Together with D'Angelo Russell, they could be their cornerstones in the years to come and will be relied upon heavily to speed up their rebuilding process to become perennial playoff contenders once again.

That dunk must have also felt so good for Allen, especially that it was not that long ago when Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo destroyed the former Longhorn with a vicious throwdown.
