The Indiana Pacers have been one of the biggest surprises of the 2017-18 NBA season thus far. It goes without saying that a large part of their success can be credited to the stellar play of shooting guard Victor Oladipo.

Oladipo has done everything the Pacers have expected from him and more in his debut season for the franchise by averaging 23.1 points, 4.0 assists, and 1.8 steals per game. He has even managed to come through in the clutch more efficiently than former superstar forward Paul George, according to Reddit user EarlyToRetire:

In 25 games, Victor Oladipo has already tied Paul George in his last four seasons with the Pacers for go-ahead field goals.

With less than 35 seconds remaining in the game (regular season and playoffs) (4th quarter and OT).

Victor Oladipo – 2/2

Paul George – 2/14

2013-2014

2014-2015

2015-2016

2016-2017

Edit – If Victor makes just one more, he will tie Paul George for his entire time as a Pacer (3/19).

The statistic may come as a bit of a surprise considering Paul George was Indiana's biggest star since the legendary Reggie Miller. However, as great a player as the four-time All-star is, he was notorious for failing to make the big shots time and again.

Regardless, there were those who still felt that the Pacers got shafted by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the trade during the offseason. However, Victor Oladipo has brought some much-needed stability to a Pacers franchise that was unsure if they were going to have any this early.

Meanwhile, fans can relish in the fact they may finally have a bonafide closer in their midst from a former Hoosier himself.
