Earlier this week, the NBA Board of Governors voted to have a reform of the lottery in an attempt to help prevent tanking.
With that in mind, Detroit Pistons head coach Stan Van Gundy recently voiced to Vince Ellis of the Detriot Free Press that he wants to take that a step further by eliminating max contracts that he believes would change the entire league.

“I think if you did that and you had no individual max on players, we’d start to get some parity in the league, but the league really doesn’t want parity. They want the super teams, and I get that. It’s worked well, business-wise.”
This would allow for teams to pay players' contracts that they believe that they deserve, and that it would change the outlook of the league. There would be many players earning far greater than what they are making currently while it would make harder for powerhouse teams to stay together as other teams could offer them more lucrative deals.
In essence, it aims to spread the wealth across the league to where it's the team's discretion of how much they want to offer players. This would also give more freedom and control of how they want to shape their rosters.
With the NBA continuing to adjust it's rules and regulations each offseason, this could be something that may be seriously considered down the line.
