In a game in which Damian Lillard struggled offensively, CJ McCollum saved the season for the Portland Trail Blazers.

McCollum finished with 37 points on 17-29 shooting to help the Blazers pull off a 100-96 upset against the Denver Nuggets in Game 7 of the Western Conference semifinals.

His heroics also helped him notch a statistical feat only four other players in Blazers history were able to accomplish.

The other game in which CJ McCollum scored at least 35 points was Game 3 of the series, when he scored 41 points to help the Blazers outlast the Nuggets, 140-137, in a four-OT thriller.

CJ McCollum torched the Nuggets' defense throughout Game 7 on Sunday, making one mid-range jumper after another. In his 17 made field goals, only one came from the 3-point area. Despite not having the home-court advantage in the series, the Blazers were able to stand their ground against the team with the second-best record in the West.

With the win, the Blazers advance to the Western Conference Finals, where they will face the two-time defending champion Golden State Warriors, the team that has eliminated them in the playoffs in 2016 and 2017.

If the Blazers want to have a bigger chance of beating the Warriors, McCollum will need to be more productive on the offensive end. Yes, he averaged 25 points per game versus the Nuggets, but he also scored fewer than 20 points twice in the series. That will not work against a Warriors team that has two of the best shooters in NBA history.

Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals is set for Tuesday night.
